Hi all, I have tried 3 different voice recorder apps on the I pad and to no avail, they all freeze or turn off voice over. Are there a couple good ones to try that don't do this? Thanks. Tiffany

Why don't you try the voice recorder that come with the pad? It works all right.

I have yet to find the recording app. Where should I look for it?

its called voice memos, I'm not sure where it is on your specific device as aps can get moved around, you can pres the home button, then press it again to do a search and type voice memos into the search box, from the search results you can then double tap on the voice memos app. finding it amongst your other apps may be the challenge though.

Thanks I'll give this a try. I downloaded and tried to use an app called Italk, it turns off voiceover but doesn't crash the whole system, are there any bug fixes for apps like this? This app gets a lot of good reviews from voiceover actors. I'm trying to help my husband with a job that he needs a recorder for. One neat thing with this app it lets you email the files and has wifi Itunes transfer capabilities. Has anyone here used this app on their Ipad? Thanks, Tiffany

Does anyone know if Voice Memos has a length limit? I was afraid it did, but I haven't tried.

One thing about voiceover remaining on when voice recording with programs is if it speaks, the recording will pick it up if you're not careful.

Tiff, I'm going to try Italk, just because I am looking for a good one too. I've used quickvoice, and it's not too bad. it has email funcitonality, and you can also create ringtones with it if that's your thing. If you know the place where the pause and stop buttons are on your screen, having voiceover off isn't so bad.

I've had a Voice Memo record for 1 hour and 3 minutes. Not sure how much longer it would have kept going. lol
Now, if I could only get that recording onto my computer. Help!

I use dropVox. It costs $2, records into m4a files, and uploads these to dropbox. You can also get them via iTunes file sharing. It's not your full-featured recorder; you have two options, start and stop. If you want to record quick memos and have them easily available to you on dropbox, this would work.

voice memos are awesome
i think they last as long as your battery or however much space you have on your iPad/iPhone
it's usually found in the utilities folder.
To get it onto your computer, you have to connect your iPhone/iPad with itunes and sink your music. you will see a box saying sink voice memos, and just check that.
Hope this helps. :)

Does DropVox work for something longer, 1 hour max?
Wondering whether I should switch to it from the Voice Memos app, since I need to upload some files to DropBox.

I use Smart Recorder Lite. It's easy to use and works reall well with voiceover. The version I have is free. There is a paid version, but the free one works just fine for me.

I don't know. I have recorded for half an hour, and that worked fine. Note that you might be waiting for a while, as there is no clear indication of how far along the upload is, only "uploading" and "complete". I use it purely for little two-minute memos, typically.
